Wiki Use

overview

Here are some tips for WikiWikiWeb editing.

  • Bulleted lists are made with a tab or three spaces at the beginning of a line followed by an asterisk and a space followed by content. Edit this page to see an example.
  • Italics can be made by surrounding a word or phrase with asterisks.
  • Bold is done by surrounding a word or phrase with a single underbar.
  • Bold italic is made by surrounding a word or phrase with double underbars.
  • A <PRE> marks the beginning of a block that you want to show up asis. A </PRE> marks the end.
  • A <wiki *> tag is a special beast. Look at wiki tags for more info.
Numbered lists are made with a tab (or three spaces) at the beginning of a line followed by a # followed by a space. Here is an example;

  1. foo
  2. bar
  3. maz
Autolinks are the basis of Wikiness. They allow the creation of new pages. Autolinks are made by putting ?percents around a phrase? You can't see the percents, but they're there.

There are extended autolinks too. the format of an extended autolink is;

%alias#realtopic%
This creates a link with name of alias that points to realtopic. here is an example; The Wiki Overview

Note that links that don't have an associated page (new links for instance) are surrounded by question marks. If you want to edit the newly created page, just click on the link, and when you see the message indicating that there is no text written yet, and click edit. Voila, instant content.

Regular URL's will be parsed and made into links, eg. http://www.2gn.com automatically gets marked up as a link. URL's that are link to images (and end in gif, jpg, or png) are automatically inlined.

Standard html can be embedded too, so you can do cool things like tables and (yuk!) frames. I've never tried it, but I suppose you could do javascript too.

You can also upload images and files to the server from the edit page. To point to them later, simply do one of the following;

<wiki image filename>
<wiki file filename>

The IMAGE tag will embed it into the page (inline image). The FILE tag will create a pointer to the file (binary files). Note that the file has to be uploaded to that area for this to work.

To make ampersands, greater-thens and less-thens, use the following;

%amp%
%gt%
%lt%
